Media Information Literacy as Solution for the Increasing Case of Cyber Crime.
Cyber crime is an illegal activity that involves the use of computer or the internet. Examples are identity theft, transaction fraud, hacking, piracy and others. It is one of the world’s major problem that it is very rampant nowadays. As the number of internet users increases the more cyber crime cases are recorded.

In the Philippines, according to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cyber Crime Group (ACG) online libel cases soared from only 22 incidents in 2013 to 661 from January to June 2019; as well as online scam cases from 42 to 550; photo and video voyeurism cases from 10 to 356; and computer-related identity theft cases from 23 to 258.Cases of online threat, meanwhile, rose from 29 to 217 during the period; system interference or hacking from 12 to 193; unjust vexation from one reported case to 148; cases of illegal access from zero incident to 133; automated teller machine (ATM) and credit card fraud from one reported case to 59; and robbery with intimidation from three to 35 incidents. This shows that many Filipinos still do not have enough knowledge on how things work online and because of this they are vulnerable and easily targeted in cyber crimes. They need to be properly guided and educated on how to use the internet effectively. In that way cyber crime related cases will decrease and lessen.
How Media Information and Literacy help in solving cyber crime?
One way to lessen the case of cyber crime is through learning Media Information and Literacy (MIL). According to http://www.dw.com, media information literacy defined as the ability to access, analyze, and create media. It is a prerequisite for citizens to realize their rights to freedom of information and expression.
Media and information literacy help solve cyber crime by providing platforms for people to exercise their rights to freedom of information and expression. The fact that MIL allows for the realization of human rights opens new ways for people to express themselves and make their own choices. This makes people more involved in the protection of their rights especially regarding privacy and can thus act individually towards lessening cyber crime. Therefore cyber crime can easily be avoided if one has the ability to recognize and analyze media through MIL.
